Watermelon "Barrel of Honey".
A very original mid-season variety (from germination to the beginning of fruiting 90-95 days), intended for cultivation in open ground and under temporary film shelters. The fruits are oval-cylindrical, bright green, with darker stripes, weighing 2.5-3.5 kg in northern countries (up to 10-14 kg in southern regions). The pulp is bright red, tender, grainy, very sweet and tasty.
Agrotechnology.
Watermelon is grown in open ground and greenhouses, on light air- and water-permeable soils. Sowing is approximately in May, when the soil warms up to a depth of 8-10 cm to +15 °C. Planting pattern 140x100 cm. In greenhouses - 70x70 cm, using trellises (fruits can be hung in nets).
Before sowing, the seeds are treated in a solution of potassium permanganate, then washed with clean water. The seedling method of growing is also used. In this case, the seedlings are planted after the last frosts at the age of 3-4 true leaves. As they grow, the plants are formed into one stem, removing the lateral shoots and leaving 2-3 ovaries on it (the rest are removed). Further care consists of moderate watering, loosening, fertilizing and sprinkling the lashes to protect them from being turned over by the wind.
